The Police

So much for not posting for awhile...

I spent much of Tuesday in a fetal position on the couch, and later on hosted an artist friend. We talked and self-medicated with beer and some shots of Irish whiskey. Here's to beginnings. I actually feel worlds better today. Thank you for all the support and encouragement. I guess I'm a lot stronger and more resilient than I thought.

The woman Sam's brother is dating got us amazing 5th row center section seats for the Police concert at Key Arena. I took Kayleigh as my date. Her first rock concert! She LOVED it. Actually, my first rock concert was The Humans, who recorded on IRS Records, which was the label The Police recorded on! So there ya go.

Anyway, I won't go into too much detail as I'm exhausted. But the show was effing great. Those boys are still as tight as ever, and the light show was really excellent. In fact, Invisible Sun had Iraq war footage laid over the stage images on the big screen, and Walking in Your Footsteps included an intricate 3D animated dino skeleton sequence. Several of the songs were presented in an almost progressive fashion. Definitely longer and more intricate.

Here's the set list from the Seattle show:

Message in a Bottle
Synchronicity 2
Spirits in the Material World
Voices Inside My Head/When the World is Running Down...
Don't Stand So Close to Me
Driven to Tears
Walking on the Moon
Truth Hits Everybody
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic
Wrapped Around Your Finger
The Bed's Too Big Without You
Murder By Numbers
De Do Do Do De Da Da Da
Invisible Sun
Walking in Your Footsteps
Can't Stand Losing You/Regatta De Blanc
Roxanne

1st Encore:
King of Pain
So Lonely

2nd Encore:
Every Breath You Take
Next to You

Great show. Maybe I'll elaborate when I've had some rest...

The Police played lots of background tracks to my early dating days with Michael. Good memories. Glad you enjoyed the concert and they've still got it. What a great first concert for Kayleigh - something you never forget!

Wow!!! You are the best dad EVER...my dad used to take me to the flea market and if I was real good I could help him sell the planters he had made by heating my mom's Streisand LPs in the oven over a coffee can (dysfunctinal much?). My first concert? Eurythmics at the Greek swiftly followed by Peter Gabriel in Oakland...good times...Love ya, SMack

The phone pics make it seem like we were farther back than we were. Let me tell you we could see the decoration on Andy's guitar strap, which said: MY GOD - THEY KILLED KENNY!

(a little South Park reference for the uninitiated)

Ali - yeah, definitely some deep memories of my own, especially being ther with Sam's brother.

SMack - Which Gabriel tour? SO? Sam & I saw that one, and also when he toured with Amnesty (U2, Sting, Lou Reed, etc).

When I was 8 my father decided I needed to expand my musical horizons and gifted me with cassette tapes of The Police, Genesis, Journey and .38 Special. I wore out the first three and hardly listened to the fourth but have to say that to this day, The Police hold a special spot in my heart. What a cool dad you are :)

Hey Nix - your dad was AWESOME for doing that. I was fortunate to have a big brother figure in my life after my parents split up, who turned me onto bands like Pink Floyd and Van Halen and Peter Gabriel, Missing Persons, The Police, Moody Blues, all sorts of eclectic stuff!

My daughter is gunning for a career in the arts, possibly as a musician of some kind. I figure exposing her to some decent music can't hurt. :)

Sounds like you're on the right path! :) I've done the same with my boys, just because I'M eclectic as heck with my own tastes and figure it can't be a bad thing to pass on. Sort of like pb, butter and banana sandwiches---there are just some things you need future generations to know.
